Tom Travers is an excellent coach. I have had the pleasure of working with Tom as an athlete myself, and as a coach. Being on the US Team since 1993, I was very fortunate to meet Tom and have access to his expertise. He has helped me tremendously, and continues to be one of my biggest supporters to this day. I always know I can call Tom and ask his advice anytime needed. There is no one I would trust more with my game. Not only does he understand the game, and all of it's strategies and intricacies, but he takes the time to know and understand the individual. As a coach myself, I know this is the most important quality for a coach to possess. This is what makes Coach Travers so special.
Recently, I asked Tom if he might be able to help us coach the USA Junior Racquetball Team. Unfortunately, Tom was unable to accept the position, due to an already full schedule. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was! I knew there was no one we would rather have in the position, and we hope he may be able to join our staff in the near future.
In an ideal world, I would want Tom at all of my matches. Not only does he bring the utmost knowledge of the game to courtside, but he brings a smile and a positive attitude. It is a joy to be around him, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with him.

Since I was, in my mind, a fairly decent player, I initially resisted getting coaching. After a poor tournament last year, I finally went to Tom for his help. Tom is knowledgeable and to the point. His advice has changed my approach to the game, and, as important, was a huge factor in helping me win National Masters in Tucson and the World Senior Singles this year. I plan on continuing to work with Tom and would recommend him to those who want to see a difference in their game.

"After years of playing competitive racquetball and doing pretty well, I decided that I rarely had a game plan when I walked on the court and I especially wanted to feel confident of my serves so I contacted Tom for direction. He provided the knowledge and techniques I needed to improve my game, practice correctly, and be the best that I can be. I highly recommend Tom as a great teacher/coach and will work with him in the future whenever I feel my game needs refining."

Coach,
I wanted to give you and update on my progress. I have been doing very well with my serve. I am putting in quite few hours on my serve every week (by myself). I take my notes and I have also taped myself to catch bad habits. Whenever I start getting a little lost I go back to the tape on the front wall and it gets me back on track. I am serving 3-5 aces a game right now. And keeping it low while slowing it down to get better angles on the first serve. I am serving aces in doubles, now thats pretty good!
Always warm up with 30-30 forehand/backhand before matches.
On the return I keep resisting setting up with a backhand grip, but I am conscious of it and making the changes.
I have won 10 out 10 of my last games, vs various class players (A thru B). They guys that I usually play are thrown off by the effectiveness/angle of my first serves now.
I will be playing the pro stop IRT in Tampa, the State Singles in Sarasota and in Miami as well. Those are the ones I am preparing for. I think I will play 45+A and A as well.
Still a lot of work to do in incorporating the slide back and slide forward, wide angle in volleys, as well as getting the hip through in the backhand. I am also working on making contact with the ball a little more forward on the backhand.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my progress so far with the tools you have given me. I might want to hook up with you for a half day before I start the tournaments for a half day or so.
I will send you a video of myself soon so you can see the improvement.
Thank you,
Nestor Ruiz gr8nestor@comcast.net
