The questions everyone asks is "Why
do I need a lesson or Do I need lesson?"
The answer depends on how much you really
would like to improve. Let me give you an
example. Years ago I was a youg buck full
of energy and thought I knew it all. Well,
after struggling with arm problems and injuries
I decided to take a few lessons from a touring
pro. Those lessons turned out to be the most
valuable turning point in my career. I did
not think so at first, because you have to
take a step back in your game before going
forward.
Never would I have experienced the consistent
play (which by the way wins games and matches)
without those lessons. Even top pro's from
all sports benefit from lessons. It is very
difficult to see yourself and therefore even
more difficult to correct your mistakes. I
truly believe there are benefits to instruction.
You can basically break the instruction down
in three forms.
1. Have an instructor watch you and help correct
your mistakes by: working on technique, foot
work, and help with Fitness training.
2. Have an instructor video tape you in a
match. Then, go over the match with you and
by seeing yourslf in different points in the
match you will be able to identify with your
mistakes. Listening to an instructor is one
thing but 'seeing" yourself is quite
another.
3. After recognizing the mistakes and correcting
them you will need to practice. Practice using
the correct form will escalate your road to
success.
